Just found these three smiling beauties sitting outside of a trailer today here in Jackson- knocked on the door, made an offer to the nice lady inside and now they’re ours! They look early (appear to be 1960’s based on the Knoll label and fact that there is no stamp on the back horizontal wire). Normal wear associated with age and being exposed to the weather but these have held up very well considering – I don’t see any broken welds. The pads are pretty worn – especially the straps and the coating on the steel has worn off in several areas but all in all, these are fantastic and very comfortable.
Some info on Harry Bertoia and the wire chairs he designed for Knoll:
new find – “Capella” #4 teak lounge chair frame – designed by Illum Wikkelsø and produced by Niels Eilerson – circa 1959. Wonderful early Danish design that helped propel the Danish modern movement. Solid frame, tight joinery and a clean design. If interested, Matterhouse will order new straps and fabricate new cushions in the fabric of your choice.
A little info on Wikkelsø can be found here.
And a couple images of others are here and here.
